How should bulk buyers compare prices and freight?

Compare the total order cost on equivalent product terms. List goods, packing and transport, split-shipment charges and delivery timing together to understand the difference between quotations.

Updated 10 October 2026

Make quotations comparable

Unit prices are not directly comparable when brand, pack quantity or supply scope differs. Align the goods, quantities and included charges first. List unspecified items separately, rather than comparing a delivered price with a goods-only price.

Calculate the order total

Use four columns for goods, packing, freight and other agreed charges, then total them. Recalculate freight for split shipments. Leave unquoted items pending instead of filling gaps with guessed figures.

Show delivery alongside price

Whether a lower quote with a longer lead time is worthwhile depends on the purchase. Planned replenishment can allow time; a scheduled repair needs parts in place.
